Hi all!

This isn't really automation/robotics but it's the closest project category I could find that kinda relates to this.

I am using the Jaguar Board as the brain for our redemption machine. Ubuntu 14.04 + additional custom hardware.

My only lament about the Jag is it's lack of battery. I would really like to be able to set the date and use the Atom's RTC feature. Sadly, nightly power cycles make this impossible since any entered time will be forgotten the next morning, and the machine cannot be guaranteed internet connection to fix this issue through normal OS syncing means.

Otherwise I love the Jaguar Board, and plan on buying more for future projects as well as ** knock on wood ** production machines :)

Follow my company's Facebook for more pics/vids of this machine over the coming months

Amazing project!
I am sorry about the battery issue on current JaguarBoard, but we can release a revision (new board) to add a battery on it if you will place a good order.

Would a super capacitor in parallel with the power supply supply enough to keep the date/time in the bios over night?

I do not think so! You need a battery, not a capacitor.
Or you can use a power bank to provide 5V/2.1A output for jaguarboard, it will keep time update.

You could buy or make a usb-rtc...

blog.adafruit.com/2012/12/14/how-to-buil...errypi-raspberry_pi/

USB dongle has a built in battery that stores the time. Not sure if something like this would work for what you're trying to achieve.
