It is HDMI simulator for stabling the HDMI output, without it you can not boot the Jaguarboard with no monitor connected.

That is the same chip that I re-seated into the socket (which didn't seem to make any difference).

But are you saying that I should try using the Jaguarbard without that chip installed at all? My understanding of that thread is that the board won't boot at all without it.

I tried with the chip removed, but I still had the same problem so I put the chip back in.

I also got a HDMI-DVI cable today and gave that a try this evening. So far it seems to work fine with the converter cable, but I've only given it one real test so far. If it keeps working fine with the converter cable, then that would certainly indicate some sort of HDMI compatibility problem.
