It definitely took a couple few times, i'll admit. My first few attempts froze up very early on in the installation process. I saw somewhere on here about checking the use LVM option on install. That got me a quite a bit further in the process, but it would still freeze. Then I also chose to not install updates during installation but did choose to install the 3rd party stuff for mp3 playback and whatnot. And that got me installed.
I didn't know anything about linux or ubuntu before I got this thing, but I've been around Windows based machines my whole life and; while my command line knowledge is limited, I'm not afraid of it at all. so this has been a fun intro to the world of linux. I'd guess the biggest issue with stability with Ubuntu is the lack of RAM, yes? free -m shows that the system only has 800MB of system memory, which i guess the the 200MB is taken up by Intel graphics? I think I've had some luck with increasing the swap size. so far I've seen the system use as much as 900MB of swap. I also increased the swappiness of the drive from the default 60 to 85. I've since done a few more tweaks to the system to try and reduce system resource usage, like disabling the fancy visual settings, start up applications, etc. I have pretty good luck and am happy with it overall. Again, i'm a total noob to most of this, so YMMV, and any other advice you may have would be helpful.
