Chapter 1 : Hardware Configure

JaguarBoard can be used without extra hardware devices directly, just like a PC. Of course, you could add some accessories if you like. Before using it, you should prepare something as below:

  • One JaguarBoard
  • One USB keyboard (mouse)
  • HDMI displayer
  • Power
  • USB HUB (used to install operation system)

Chapter 2 : Simple Operation of UEFI

JaguardBoard supports UEFI startup-guide which provides bigger space and more comprehensive functions. Now JaguardBoard supports two kinds of system: one is android & Linux, the other is Windows 8.1.Bofore installing system, you should make sure which kind of system the UEFI supports, Linux or Windows.

2.1 Operating System Installation Support Queries

  1. Log in UEFI Setiings
    Power JaguardBoard and press "Delete", then you will see UEFI Settings, just like a PC.
  2. Choose Main  Me

    If Project Version is JBTCR 0.42X64, then it supports Linux form. If  Project Version is JBTCR 0.43, then it supports Windows form.

2.2 Version Change of UEFI

If your cuurent JaguarBoard supports Linux form, but you want to use Windows form or inversely, then I will show you  how to make it.

For now, we provide two kinds of firmwares, Exb7a_a64.bin for Linux form and Exb7a2_win32.bin for Windows form. If you want to use different system, please refresh to corresponding UEFI firmware.

  1. Current firmware is for Linux form, and change it to Windows form.
    Step 1: Download the firmware with this link:

                 http://www.jaguarboard.org/downloads/UEFI.zip
    Step 2: Unzip and copy this firmware to USB device

    Step 3: Choose UEFI shell as startup way (Refer to next chapter)

    Step 4: Log in UEFI shell

               

    Step 5: Find the USB device (usually named fs0 or fs1)

                Executive command: fs1:

               

    Step 6: Executive command:          

                cd WINDOS_BIOS          

                ls          

                fpt64 –f exb7a2-w32.bin         

             

    Step 7: Notice completed, then remove USB disk and restart system to install windows system.           

                          

              That means you have installed new firmware successfully.

  2. Current firmware is for Windows form, and change it to Linux form.
    Step 1: Download the firmware with this link:            
                http://www.jaguarboard.org/downloads/UEFI.zip

    Step 2: Unzip and copy this firmware to USB device

    Step 3: Choose UEFI shell as startup way (Refer to next chapter)

    Step 4: Log in UEFI shell

               

    Step 5: Find the USB device (usually named fs0 or fs1)

                Executive command: fpt –f exb7a2_a64.bin
                           

               Notice:

               linux<>windows命令为:fpt64

               Windows<>linux命令为:fpt

2.3 Set Startup Mode

JaguarBoard supports three kinds of startup modes: Start from eMMC, Start from USB devices, Start from EFI. Power on and log in UEFI settings, choose Boot Menu.

Notice: We have installed Windows 8.1 as default, so if start from eMMC, you will see "Windows Boot Manager".

We will show you how to adjust boot sequence. Now we choose "Start from USB devices" as an example.

  1. Choose USB devices with keyboard.
  2. Set first startup option.

    After completing, don't forget "Save & Exit".

Chapter 3 : Install Operation System

3.1 Installation of Linux Series

Now we take Ubuntu-12.04.3-desktop-amd64 as an example.

  1. Download Ubuntu iso.
  2. Produce U disk which can start system with PowerISO software.
    Notice: The user may also directly using USB drive device for CD installation.
  3. Connect U disk or USB drive device to USB HUB of the JaguarBoard.
    Notice: You'd better prepare USB HUB first, it will be convinient to connect keyboard, mouse or other USB devices to install system.
  4. Power off and restart, log in Ubuntu installation interface.

    Choose the second option and install Ubuntu.

3.2 Installation of Windows System

Just like PC, you can set startup from USB device.

Notice: Before installing Window system, please check the version of UEFI. 

Chapter 4 : Applications Examples

4.1 Set Up a WEB Server with JaguarBoard   

  1.  Install SSH service
    Commands:
    sudo apt-get update
    Sudo apt-get install ssh
    Sudo apt-get install ssh-server
  2. Connect JaguarBoard through SSH
  3. Install apache2
    Command:
    apt-get install apache2
     
  4. Restart apache2 service
    Command:
    /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
  5. The current IP address of JaguarBoard is 192.168.2.120. login with browser.
  6. Install PHP
    Command:
    apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5
  7. Restart apache to load the modules installed above.
    Command:
    /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
    Notice: You could install other services, the process is the same with settting up WEB server on Linux system.
